Shimano Deore XT BL-M8100 + BR-M8100 J-Kit I-Spec EV Brake

The new Shimano brakes are part of the updated Deore XT M8100 groupset and set a new standard in modulation and performance. Thanks to the new I-Spec EV system, the lever has 2 support points for greater stability, while its main function allows lateral and angular adjustment of the shifter, secured with a single screw to keep the handlebar tidy.

The lever design follows the lines of the XTR and offers Reach and Free Stroke adjustment for personalised braking. Servo Wave technology also provides faster engagement and unparalleled braking power.

Ice Technologies

Incorrect disc brake rotor and brake pad configuration has a negative impact on braking performance, for example when braking on a long descent. Shimano has adopted Ice Technologies disc brake rotors and brake pads to provide cooling technology that ensures consistent performance. The clad disc brake rotor blade, with a 3-layer sandwich construction of stainless steel, aluminium and stainless steel, provides better heat dissipation (from 400˚C to 300˚C surface temperature). The brake pad cooling fin ensures less wear, less noise, less fade and lower weight.

One Way Bleeding

The “One Way Bleeding” function was developed to make it quick and easy to prevent air entering Shimano hydraulic systems. The entire oil circuit in the system has been optimised to prevent air bubbles inside it. The one-way oil circuit, together with a funnel tool containing mineral oil, provides an easy, clean bleeding system.

I-Spec EV

I-Spec EV creates a clean, optimised cockpit that allows greater focus and comfort for a wide range of riders.

I-Spec EV increases brake lever rigidity by moving the clamp inwards to create an additional contact point between the handlebar and lever. This extra support greatly increases bike control and brake response, while leaving space between the clamp and support point for other handlebar-mounted accessories.

Servo Wave Action

When the Servowave brake lever is operated, initial cable take-up is faster, so only a small amount of lever travel is needed to bring the pads into contact with the brake disc. The power multiplication factor then increases rapidly on contact, so more lever travel is used to apply greater force with higher levels of braking control.
