The chain, in its apparent simplicity, performs a critical and fundamental function for the cyclist's safety and to optimize the entire transmission mechanism. The new Super Record 12 Speed chain also had to be redesigned to interface with all the other new transmission components. The first and fundamental goal was therefore to reduce its bulk. Now the width is 5.15 millimeters, also thanks to the new pins perfectly aligned with the outer surface of the links. The second goal was to preserve its performance thanks to the Ultra-link system, which provides security and durability to the chain, and a special treatment that ensures extremely smooth operation and precision in shifting.
