GRX RD-RX400 is the Shimano rear derailleur designed for gravel, touring and cyclocross
The Japanese manufacturer never ceases to amaze us with its innovations. This time it has focused on developing and launching a completely different groupset: the GRX groupset, designed for those who love versatility and are undeterred by obstacles.
Thanks to the steadily growing popularity of gravel, cyclocross and touring, Shimano has been able to invest its knowledge and enthusiasm in something completely new. Keeping shifting extremely precise and the chain in place on any terrain presented something of a challenge, but it was overcome through a series of modifications drawn from both MTB and road models. The integrated stabiliser (clutch) reliably prevents the chain from striking the rear derailleur and frame, keeping it in place. When moving onto road surfaces, where chain control is not vital, the clutch can be disengaged simply by moving the dedicated lever. The rear derailleur has its own adjustment screw for setting cable tension, along with highly efficient pulleys with sealed bearings.

Technology
Shimano Shadow RD
With its Shimano Shadow RD mechanism, the new rear derailleur is designed for a more aggressive riding style. The low-profile design offers numerous benefits, as does the unique tensioning system that prevents the rear derailleur from coming into contact with the chain on very rough surfaces. The result is efficient, very quiet operation.
Founded in 1921 in Sakai, Japan, by Shozaburo Shimano, Shimano is still based in the same city today. For cyclists, it makes drivetrains, brakes, wheels, pedals and cycling shoes. Its history in bicycle components began with the production of freewheels in 1922.
