The Continental Grand Prix 5000 is the successor to the legendary Grand Prix 4000S II road bike tyre. In terms of performance, the Grand Prix 5000 surpasses its predecessor. With lower rolling resistance, lower weight and greater comfort, the Grand Prix 4000S II has been dethroned after a long reign.

Equipped with the very latest technologies.
The Grand Prix 5000 features the latest Continental technologies. An updated version of Continental's Black Chilli Compound provides a perfect balance between rolling resistance and grip. With "Lazer Grip Technology", the tread shoulders of the Grand Prix 5000 are rougher. This gives the GP 5000 optimum cornering grip. This laser tread also improves airflow around the tyre for better aerodynamics.

Greater stability and comfort.
The GP 5000 also has an updated casing. The new 3-layer construction with 330 tpi is stiffer than its predecessor's casing. This gives the GP 5000 greater stability when cornering and at high speeds. The tyre also features an Active Comfort layer. As the name suggests, Active Comfort ensures a high level of riding comfort. The "Active Comfort layer" has a cushioning effect and dampens vibrations from the road surface without compromising rolling resistance. This allows the Grand Prix 5000 to offer a comfortable ride with excellent rolling resistance.

Better puncture protection.
Finally, this Continental tyre features an updated version of Continental's Vectran puncture protection strip. This extra inner layer offers better protection against punctures. Continental claims that the risk of punctures has been reduced by 20% compared with its predecessor. In this way, Continental contributes significantly to the durability of Grand Prix road bike tyres. With the Grand Prix 5000, Continental presents the new heir to the throne!

Technologies

Black Chili Compound.
The designers at Continental went back to the drawing board to further refine the Black Chili Compound of the Grand Prix 4000 SII. And they succeeded! Various test results show that the Continental GP5000 scores higher for rolling resistance, durability and wear resistance.

LazerGrip Technology.
Continental has laser-treated the edges of the Grand Prix 5000. The laser profile adapts optimally to the road surface. This provides greater cornering grip. The difference can be felt at high speeds and in wet conditions!

Active Comfort.
A cushioning layer is applied underneath. This Active Comfort layer dampens oscillations and vibrations from the road surface. The greater comfort allows you to stay in an aerodynamic position for longer. This gives you an unprecedented riding experience.

Vectran Breaker Layer.
The Vectran Breaker layer is a protective layer beneath the tread that prevents air loss. This strip prevents sharp stones, twigs and glass shards from passing through the tyre and reaching the inner tube. With this layer, you can enjoy greater puncture protection.

Features:

  • Weight: 215 grams (25 mm tyre width)
  • 330tpi, 3-layer construction
  • 10 grams lighter than the Grand Prix 4000S II
  • The new Black Chili Compound has even lower rolling resistance.
  • The flexible casing offers greater stability when cornering and at high speeds.
  • The laser-profiled tread on the edge of the tyre offers optimum grip on tarmac.
  • The Vectran puncture protection strip protects the tyre from cuts caused by sharp objects.
  • The "Active Comfort" layer has a cushioning effect and dampens vibrations from the road surface without negatively affecting rolling resistance.
  • You need a tyre lever to fit the final part of the tyre onto the rim

Founded in Hanover in 1871, Continental is still based in the German city today. For cyclists, it makes tires and inner tubes for road, gravel, mountain biking and urban riding. Its connection with bicycles goes back to its early days: in 1892, it became the first German company to produce pneumatic bicycle tires.
