Technologies
4-Piston
The disc braking system with two opposed pistons of different diameters features differently sized pistons at the front and rear. The system transfers power so that the brake rotor is pressed by the smaller piston at the entrance to the rotor slot and also by the larger, more powerful piston at the rear. This prevents judder and significantly reduces noise. In addition, the 4-piston calliper provides a larger contact area while remaining compact, and the efficient pad positioning is adjusted as needed to stabilise pressure. Combined use with the ServoWave lever delivers an outstanding 50% increase in braking power over the previous model.
Ice Technologies
An incorrect disc brake rotor and pad configuration during braking on a long descent, for example, has a negative impact on brake performance. Shimano has adopted Ice Technologies disc brake rotors and pads to provide cooling technology that ensures consistent performance. The clad disc brake rotor blade, with its 3-layer sandwich structure of stainless steel, aluminium and stainless steel, provides better heat dissipation (from 400˚C to 300˚C surface temperature). The pad's cooling fin ensures less wear, less noise, less fade and lower weight.
I-Spec EV
I-Spec EV creates a clean, optimised cockpit that allows greater focus and comfort for a wide range of riders.
Advantages and benefits
- The wider adjustment range allows riders with a variety of styles, preferences and body types to find the optimum lever and shifter position.
- The ergonomic design, quicker lever access and smooth operation improve riding comfort and focus.
I-Spec EV increases brake lever rigidity by moving the clamp inwards to create an additional contact point between the handlebar and lever. This extra support significantly increases bike control and brake response, while retaining space between the clamp and support point for other handlebar-mounted accessories.
Founded in 1921 in Sakai, Japan, by Shozaburo Shimano, Shimano is still based in the same city today. For cyclists, it makes drivetrains, brakes, wheels, pedals and cycling shoes. Its history in bicycle components began with the production of freewheels in 1922.
