Technologies

Free Stroke Reach Adjust

The distance between the grip and the lever can be adjusted to suit any hand size and the rider's individual style and preferences.

I-spec

Integrated mounting system for the shifter and brake lever. Provides a clean appearance, more space around the handlebar and reduced weight.

Servo Wave Action

When the Servowave brake lever is operated, initial cable take-up is faster, so a small amount of lever travel is enough to bring the pads into contact with the brake disc. The power multiplication factor then increases rapidly on contact, so more of the lever travel is used to apply greater force with higher levels of braking control.

Ice Technologies

Incorrect configuration of the disc brake rotor and pads when braking on a long descent, for example, has a negative impact on braking performance. Shimano has adopted the Ice Technologies disc brake rotor and pads to provide cooling technology that ensures consistent performance. The clad disc brake rotor blade, with a 3-layer sandwich structure of stainless steel, aluminium and stainless steel, provides better heat dissipation (from 400˚C to 300˚C surface temperature). The pad's cooling fin provides less wear, less noise, less brake fade and lower weight.

One Way Bleeding

The “One Way Bleeding” feature was developed to make preventing air ingress into Shimano hydraulic systems quick and easy. The entire oil circuit in the system has been optimised to prevent air bubbles inside it. The one-way oil circuit, together with a funnel tool containing mineral oil, provides an easy, clean bleeding system.

Founded in 1921 in Sakai, Japan, by Shozaburo Shimano, Shimano is still based in the same city today. For cyclists, it makes drivetrains, brakes, wheels, pedals and cycling shoes. Its history in bicycle components began with the production of freewheels in 1922.
